A solid wood panel is prepared, sanded and primed. The original icon design is then reproduced on its surface, ready for the gilding.

A short introduction
Our workshop is in the south of Burgundy, France. We have been making religious icons here for nearly forty years.
Every icon sold on this site is made in our workshop, from concept to finish. The artistic direction, the painting, the gilding and the varnishing are all done in-house. We do not import.
What we make
About eighty percent of our icons are designed in-house.
Our artistic director works on each new icon for around a year, hand in hand with two iconographers. The aim is to stay faithful to the Christian iconographic tradition while keeping close to the sensibility of today's families and faithful.
The catalogue covers the major subjects of the Christian tradition. Christ, the Virgin Mary, the Holy Spirit, the Holy Family, the guardian angels, the archangels and the saints. We also produce works in the tradition of Latin Art and popular devotional subjects.
Three steps from the wood to the finished icon.
Once an icon has been designed, it is reproduced on a wood panel, then hand-gilded to the leaf, and finished with a coat of enamelled varnish painted by brush. Each varnish coat is applied by hand, icon by icon.

The sanding
Once the painting is set, the edges of each panel are sanded on the bench to remove any unevenness. The surface must be clean to the touch before the varnish goes on.

The varnish
A coat of enamelled varnish is painted by brush, icon by icon. Slight variations between two pieces of the same reference are part of the craft.
The workshop was founded close to four decades ago. The team has changed, but the craft, the suppliers and the standards have not.
